Want to know what your dog really means?
"A dog is a mirror - the behaviour you get back in some way reflects your own"
Quote from Cesar Millan, star of the National Geographic ‘Dog Whisperer’
|
|
Many have been inspired by the TV show "The Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Millan. Yet Cesar is not just about the show: he has written books describing his philosophy - "Cesar's Way" - gained through his understanding from dogs themselves and their need for a Pack Leader.
Dog Whispering is the way we humans can use the dog's own language to communicate!
For more on Cesar Millan check out his website to gain an appreciation of Cesar and all his great work helping dogs, such work includes the charitable foundation he runs to help rescue dogs. For more contact with people who follow Cesar's Way join the DW Fans list. Details of Cesar's website and this yahoo group please see my links page.
I began following Cesar's Way as I too have a large pack of dogs... "large", as all 14 live with me in the home! I believe we are a true "Cesar's Way" success story here in the UK!

Living and learning from my pack daily also gives me a true insight into dogs, being different breeds yet able to clearly communicate - so now I too know what dogs really mean!
While we see Cesar use many accepted professional methods of behaviour rehabilitation, these are treatment methods that he uses to successfully rehabilitate individual dogs he has directly assessed, and none of these methods should be copied - "Don't Try This At Home" is a clear message given out by the show, which clearly states the need to consult with a professional!
"Cesar's Way", which is also the title of his first book, is about his philosophy to be a dog’s leader, not just the methods or techniques he uses to rehabilitate indvidual dogs. Never copy a treatment method, or technique, as this may not be the right one for you and your dog!
Cesar's latest book "A Member of the Family" is a super read for all dog owners. This book has chapters written by Cesar's wife Illusion and their boys as well!

Dog Whispering
I have had success using Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan's philosophy!
|
|
I believe to live peacefully in balance with our dogs we need to understand our dogs own psychology and body language.
Quotes on this page: inspirational words from Cesar, who truly understands people and dogs together.
I encourage you to embrace the opportunity to become a "calm assertive" Pack Leader with my help.
While I have had success using Cesar Millan's methods and advocate his way, I am not endorsed by Cesar Millan or any of his affiliates.

I know that Cesar's Way works. If "seeing is believing" for us humans, then I see this way work every day with my dogs!
What do you need to believe so you can see it too? What does Cesar believe in to have success? - For these answers IMO and more on Cesar's philosophy, lets talk "Dog Whispering"!
I don't ask for anyone to "try" this way, as to "try" is setting us up for potential failure. Cesar talks of the "power of projection" - creating the picture you want. I can do this with you; we can do it together.

Why being the Pack Leader works
"Dogs are social pack animals who rely upon knowing their place for survival
- insecure dog exhibits instability if role/rank is confusing e.g. no solid sense of where they fit in..."
|
|
... again this is a quote from Cesar Millan, which explains why many behaviour problems can indeed be recovered with a change in an owner/dog relationship leading back to balance.
Fulfilling our dogs as dogs is part of Cesar's Way - exercise, discipline then affection!
Dogs need to walk daily - every day is a "new dog day"!
Check out my blog (see links page) for many more stories about why being the Pack Leader works! Your dog will "thank you" for relieving them of the pressure to be a leader!
|
|
Discipline is purely to set rules, boundaries and limits. Discipline enables all dogs, including high-ranked "dominant" dogs to respect us and recover their balance to be our followers. Discipline even helps raise self-esteem in nervous/anxious/fearful dogs.
""Nothing in Life is Free" - my dogs all want to work for me, from the smallest to the largest, the highest ranked to the lowest. They earn my affection, which I then love to give them. All dogs love to have a job to do for their leader!
I can be your mentor - we can find your inner leader and get in touch with your instinctive selves as nature intended -
working with nature not against it!

How to talk with the animals
"Species Dog"? ‘The truly universal, interspecies language
is called energy’ - Cesar Millan
|
Cesar talks of "calm assertive energy". Energy is the way we can communicate between humans and dogs, along with body language, eye contact and vocal tone! Notice I don't say "words". Words form a human communication system, yet even with humans much of our communication is through our eyes, from body language, energy and tone.
To use "words" is to perform obedience training - a way to teach dogs to make the response we want when we speak. Dog Whispering is not about training responses, it is all about natrual communication in a way a dog understands - their language. Dogs communicate via scent, body language, eye contact, energy, and sometimes vocal tone. |
|
We need to understand this, as our dogs are always watching us and reading us, even when we think they are asleep! This is how they know what we are going to do before we do it - how they know what we are really feeling.
Calm assertive energy is never aggressive or angry energy, nor is there room for frustrated energy. This is all about remaining calm in mind and body, while being firm yet fair to lead the way, as dogs will not follow unstable energy willingly - and a dog who is forced to follow will not respect such a human as a leader! A leader is not a boss. A leader leads by example. Leaders are decisive and confident, benevolent in their ways.

To be a Leader you need to
"Mean What You Say ... BUT ... Don't Be Mean When You Say It"
Quote by Suzie
|
|
If you always have calm assertive energy, then without words you can "mean what you say" and are not "mean when you say it"!
Be firm yet fair, never forceful; begin again and be the Leader of your dog(s) and "All Will Be Well"!
As dogs live in the moment, the "here and now" we can "Begin Again" any time... any place... any where
You too can be in tune with your dog - mind, body and spirit!
|
|
Dogs do not negotiate with each other or try to bribe each other - I have never seen a dog give another a piece of steak for a sit!
Dogs do correct each other, without aggression, and then move on. They do not punish or dwell on things, as dogs do not have such complex human emotions! Dogs simply act and react!
If you are not running the show in your pack, it may be your dog! For a balanced pack you need a clearly defined social framework, with you providing fair, consistent leadershp = trust and respect from your dog(s).

Rehabilitation
If you ask for help you will hear "YES"!
|
|
To lead the way to balance we first accept that there is something that needs to change, and then commit to help our dogs recover - in any way that does not harm the dog or your bond.
To find out what this is, call in my professional help - to rehabiliate the dog and train the people.
"Rehabilitation is a process of change leading to balance, readily learned with a little up-front work leading to success. Practice is an enjoyable experience shared with your dog, and maintenance fits easily into everyday life."
All I need from you is commitment, which requires patience, consistency and time. Patience - there are no magic cures - there is recovery, which is far more rewarding. Time - your time to practice. Consistency - so that "practice makes permanent".
Rehabilitation is NOT training. It is using dog psychology to help dogs use their own natural ability to return to balance. Rehabilitation works because it truly is a better way of life. By keeping it simple we bring about balance and recovery for every dog. This is not about punishment, and never any form of "time-out". Such sanctions are part of human psychology and they do not work with dogs.
|
|
Dogs can help rehabilitate dogs - "the power of the pack", which is how dogs help other dogs recover from many debilitating behaviours, such as obsessed or excited minds and aggression. My pack can provide this special recovery, as my balanced members enable another dog to model from them, and learn "how to be dog" - a balanced contented canine!
Any rehabilitation, espcially correction consequences, needs a professional to first assess and diagnose your dog(s) before deciding on a treatment plan . Timing is critical to avoid creating negative associations and harm. You can stop the acting-out "just for now" by limiting their freedom to do it, but then Call ME!
Tools can help us control and implement change, but they are not solutions - just part of a tool kit which can help us to manage a dog while rehabilitating problem behaviour. One of the great ways many tools work is by giving us people the confidence that we have control of our dogs safely.
What do you think you need today? "Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes". The only way to discover the consequences of change is to change! Commit now to a positive outcome - call in Canine Coach Suzie!
